Lead Glazed Pinch Bottle Early 20th Century North Carolina Art Pottery Large Exceptional Example

An exceptional and rare early 20th century lead glazed earthenware pinch bottle, in the classic orange associated with Daniel Z. Craven, J. H. Owens, and the Auman family - I'd guess Craven or Owens, but no way to say. The glaze is nearly identical to the slightly later Jugtown pitcher also pictured, which hints at Owens. Strangely, this was made as a "flower pot," in that it has a hole in the base that is original (it's glazed over, so it was meant to drain water) but it's an awfully strange shape for planting, and a hole was drilled in soon after manufacture, making me think it was once a lamp. Minor glaze loss around the lip (sealed and not especially visible), but no chips, cracks or other issues. A very early piece of North Carolina art pottery, in fantastic shape, and in a form you'll not likely find again.... Free shipping lower 48 only; otherwise contact me!
