A.R. Cole North NC Pottery Large Water Pitcher Red-Eyed Gravy Glaze Rare Form

Here's something you'll likely never see again - an A.R. Cole Pottery pitcher in almost a "hound handled" traditional 19th century form, utterly unlike any piece of Cole pottery I've seen. The hand-turned body flares out in regular bulbous ribs; the handle is molded in the form of a twig and has a very minor firing flaw near the base (sound and firm, just noting as much). From the late 1960s to early 1970s (A.R. Cole died in the mid-70s, and I've no doubt this is his own work, not later.) Large, at 10 inches tall and across, likely a gallon give or take. One of the best, most unusual pieces I've ever had, and a fine demonstration of the skill of one our most respected mid-century art potters. The flared and bulbous form on a hand-turned piece is especially impressive; no clue how he pulled it off. Yeah, I raised the price; the more I ponder it, the more I realize what a rare treasure this is, and I still feel like I'm basically giving away an historically significant, possibly unique piece....
