An older brass serving tray with heavily embossed Islamic script and designs, solidly constructed and far superior to the usual "made in India" metalwork that's saturated the market for decades. The rim is hand-chased, and the handles appear to be sand-cast. It was heavily lacquered (as was the practice) when new; the lacquer's still on the back, but worn from the front. A truly superior piece, withe the copper-riveted handles, folded rim on the back (solid!). I suspect this was made in the Middle East, for use rather than tourist fare, judging from the quality. It's 18 inches across the handles, 13 across the center, and an inch deep (handles two inches high), so it's quite substantial. Hard to date, but I suspect it's mid-20th century.
