Large vintage wooden dough bowl by Darrell Rhudy, December 2001, striking highly figured spalted maple, 13 inches across by 5.5 high. Rhudy (North Carolina) was a well-known wood turner, and filled in cracks or gaps with glue mixed with wood dust, creating the distinctive black spots (and securing the wood for the future, lest a crack widen). A couple of minor age cracks; not sure what it's coated with but not varnish; could use a beeswax coating but still nice and polished, and really glows. On a delicate raised foot, and so thin you can see the sun through some of the spalting! Better for display, but obviously works well as a salad bowl. I'm pretty sure Rhudy is deceased (or a centenarian, probably).
